Unity is a prerequisite for peace: unity between acts
and thoughts, unity within communities, unity among the communities across the
world. But unity does not mean standardization and conformity; on the contrary,
unity is to be expressed in diversity.
Diversity is the essential prerequisite for creativity, which is the main factor for growth. Recently, the
concept of diversity in all domains – culturally, linguistically, politically,
sexually . . . – has taken a greater meaning at a global scale. Respect for diversity
shall not be imposed by a higher hierarchy, but shall be consciously accepted
by anyone, and this can only happen through EDUCATION, which is the best means to disseminate a new kind of civilisation: a civilisation of peace.
To take responsibility for our children is also to be responsible for their education and especially for the quality of their education.
Every child on earth should have a free access to school, where (s)he can learn how to take his/her own future in the hands. Where (s)he can learn the values that unite us all. Our children also have the right to learn how to think and reflect by themselves to develop truly peaceful relationships. Education for Peace is foremost the right programme to do so in post-conflict areas.
Following Prof. Danesh's Education for Peace concept, I believe that humanity is moving towards its maturity phase through an obvious evolution towards unity-based, peace-oriented worldviews. A new era is coming, in which people will cooperate instead of competing; in which equality and justice will be applied meaningfully and at all levels of the society; and in which diversity will be truly celebrated. This needs a profound transformation of worldview so that people can respond healthily to life challenges instead of developing feelings such as anger, anxiety, and fear that can lead to violent acts.
But mankind has not reach maturity, yet. Humanity is merely in its adulthood phase and the news daily reports violence and crazy conflicts all over the world. But as in each Shakespeare's play, chaos always paves the way for a new order, for a rebirth. This is why I like to entitle the current time "A Season in Insanity." The next season will surely be brighter than the one we now experience. Welcome on stage!
